Christianne Caruana

Director Global Issues, Office of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism of Malta 

Ms Christianne Caruana joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Malta in April 2009 where she worked within the Directorate for European Affairs and covered several bilateral files.
In 2013, she was appointed Chargé d’affaires ad interim at the Embassy of the Republic of Malta in Warsaw and from November 2013 to October 2018 she served as Head of the Southeast Europe and EU Enlargement Division at Head Office.

From November 2018 to March 2019, she served as European Correspondent and between April 2019 and June 2023 she served as diplomatic advisor in the Office of the President of Malta.

Ms Caruana has been serving in the role of Director Global Issues since July 2023 where amongst others she leads on the Women, Peace and Security file. She also serves as the Chair of the WPS Oversight Committee that oversees the implementation of the current WPS National Action Plan (NAP). She is currently heading the drafting of Malta’s second NAP. Ms Caruana co-leads the UN Security Council team, in Capital, for which WPS is one of the priority areas.
She pursued her tertiary education at the University of Malta where she read for a Bachelor’s Degree with Honours in International Relations in 2005, followed by a Master’s Degree in Diplomatic Studies from the Mediterranean Academy of Diplomatic Studies in 2006. Her Master’s dissertation was entitled Women in Decision Making in the EuroMediterranean Region: A Case Study on Malta, Italy and Egypt.
