Ramona Cassar is widely recognised as one of Malta’s leading taxation lawyers, particularly active in the Gaming, Commercial, Private Client, and Financial Services sectors. Her practice spans both direct and indirect taxation, with a strong focus on cross-border transactions, advising on complex structuring, reorganisations, and tax disputes.
She also works closely with private clients on wealth management and relocation, and provides strategic tax advice to high-profile international athletes and entertainers. In addition, Ramona is actively involved in public policy development, advising government authorities on the evolution of tax legislation and regulatory frameworks, including those relating to digital assets and cryptocurrencies.
Her expertise has earned her consistent international recognition. She is ranked Band 1 for Tax in Malta by the Chambers Europe 2026 guide and is listed as “Highly Regarded” in the World Tax 2026 guide, where she is also recognised as a “Women in Tax Leader.” She is also ranked in the Private Wealth Law category in the Chambers High Net Worth Guide and recommended in the Private Client category by The Legal 500.
Ramona plays an active role in the international tax community. She serves as an Officer of the International Bar Association’s Taxes Committee and is Malta’s former National Reporter, as well as a frequent speaker at international conferences organised by the IBA’s Tax and Private Client Committees. She also serves as Vice-Chair of the Tax Technology Committee of the Confédération Fiscale Européenne (CFE).
At a local level, she is a Council Member of the Malta Institute of Taxation, where she chairs the Tax Technology Committee, and she lectures in advanced taxation at the University of Malta.
